District Mineral Foundations (DMF) must prioritise investments for mining-affected people through proper planning and engaging with Gram Sabhas

District Mineral Foundations (DMF) and the associated Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kheshtra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) scheme, are not being implemented in its true spirit in Chhattisgarh, points out the only independent assessment of DMF and PMKKKY scheme as done by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a New Delhi based non-profit policy think tank and public interest research institute.

Four-laning of K Nagar road to ease traffic

The road connecting Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex with Jajpur Road in the district would be turned into four-lane from the existing two-lane which is part of State Highway-20.

A district level officer said the existing 15 km stretch State Highway that connects Kalinga Nagar to Jajpur Road would be converted into four lane and subsequently six-lane. “For the widening work, `59 crore has been sanctioned during the current fiscal. The entire expenditure would be met from District Mineral Fund (DMF),” he said. Read more

Father Stan Swamy, Children and the Unholy State

Stan Swamy has brought to light the deplorable conditions in which the undertrials are barely surviving and has sought answers for such repressive and illegal measures meted out by the State, while also fighting for the rights of Adivasis in Jharkhand.

On the morning of August 28, 2018, several human rights activists from various parts of the country were arrested and the homes of few others were raided. ‘Urban Naxal’ is the new unceremonious epithet that has been conferred on these activists by sections of our cacophonous media. The raids, conducted by the Maharashtra Police, were carried out as part of a probe into the violence at Bhima Koregaon – triggered by an event called Elgar Parishad held in Pune on December 31, 2017. District Mineral Foundation organizes training programme on PMKKKY

District Mineral Foundation of Geology and Mining Department, J&K, organized a district level training programme on Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) here today.During her address, Joint Director, G&M, Jammu, Manisha Sarin informed that the PMKKKY scheme aims towards transforming the lives of people living in areas which are affected directly or indirectly by mining.She said that under the scheme, several developmental and welfare programs are being implemented in mining affected areas that complement the existing ongoing schemes of State and Central Government.It also minimize the adverse impacts, during and after mining, on the environment, health and socio-economics of people in mining districts besides ensuring long-term sustainable livelihoods for the affected people in mining areas, she maintained.She said that the scheme is meant to provide for the welfare of areas and people affected by mining related operations, using the funds generated by District Mineral Foundations (DMFs).
