File on Goa mining issue has reached PMO: Shripad

“We have tried hard for an amendment to the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Act for resumption of mining operations in the state. Today the file related to Goa mining has reached the PMO and will come for approval of the central cabinet soon,” he said. Giving Them Their Due

The District Mineral Foundation (DMF) was created specifically to give back to areas where mineral wealth is exploited, helping the state achieve numerous social sector targets. Simply put, the DMF is a not-for-profit body with contribution from the district’s miners. In Dantewada, home to the famous Bailadila iron ore mines, the DMF has created assets not seen in even so-called prosperous districts. The fully staffed district hospital is one such initiative, so is the education city developed at Jawanga, which has earned the district administration national awards. The district is using the DMF to even create livelihoods, from rearing of livestock to call centres. Read more

Chennai-Mysore bullet train to reduce travel time by 5 hours; Germany sends proposal

The feasibility report for the 435 km Chennai-Arakkonam-Bengaluru-Mysore route was submitted to Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani by German Ambassador Martin Ney yesterday. According to report, the route will be 85% elevated and will boast 11 per cent tunnels, and by travelling at a maximum speed of around 320 kmph the proposed train could significantly cut down travel time from the current seven hours.
