Coal Mining Talks On Track, Says CM

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Wednesday his government has brought the issue of coal ban on track in the last six months.

Talking to media persons after taking oath as the South Tura MLA, Sangma said the ban “is basically an environmental issue but later so many issues, like ownership of coal, safety of miners and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act came up”. Also, there was a wide communication gap between the state and the Centre, he added.
Sangma was reacting to Congress leader PT Sawkmie’s statement on Tuesday that the state government was delaying the solution to the impasse. Read more

खदान लीजधारकों के पास 2040 करोड़ बकाया, 62 कोल ब्लॉक में 40 को खनन का लाइसेंस ही नहीं, सालाना 1120 करोड़ का नुकसान

एक तरफ राज्य सरकार उद्योगों के विस्तारीकरण और उसे बढ़ावा देने की बात कर रही है. मोमेंटम झारखंड के साथ तीन बार ग्राउंड ब्रेकिंग सेरेमनी भी हुई. सौ से अधिक एमओयू भी किये गये. लेकिन खदानों खासकर आयरन ओर और कोल ब्लॉक खुलने में अब भी पेंच फंसा हुआ है. खदाने खुलतीं तो 6000 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक की रॉयल्टी भी आती. वर्तमान में 62 कोल ब्लॉक में से 40 का लाइसेंस अब भी लंबित है.

सरकार के साथ कंपनियों की उदासीनता के कारण 79 आयरन ओर और कोल ब्लॉक में खनन का काम शुरू नहीं हो पाया. ये खदान 2006 से 2011 के बीच आबंटित किये गये थे. खदान नहीं खुलने के कारण लगभग एक लाख करोड़ की परियोजनाएं लंबित भी हैं. 40 कोल ब्लॉक शुरू नहीं होने के कारण सरकार को सालाना 1120 करोड़ का नुकसान भी हो रहा है. Study on impact of mining on monuments begins

A team from the National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM), led by its Director H.S. Venkatesh, has commenced work on studying the impact of mining in the vicinity of ancient monuments, including the Sri Kumaraswamy and Sri Parvatidevi temples belonging to the Eighth Century, in Sandur taluk of Ballari district.

The study by NIRM is being carried out at the behest of the State government, following apprehensions by naturalists and environmentalists that mining activities were posing a threat to the ancient temples and the rich bio-diversity of the Sandur forest besides demanding a ban on mining around the ancient temples and declaring it as National Heritage Zone. Centre may amend Act to restart mining ops in Goa

PANAJI: The mining sector in the state seems to have got a new lease of life as the group of ministers appointed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into mining-related issues is likely to put up a proposal in favour of restarting mining in Goa.

A senior officer from the ministry of mines said the group of ministers is likely to recommend to the Union government to amend the Goa, Daman and Diu Mining Concessions (Abolition and Decalaration as Mining Leases) Act, 1987 that will allow mining operations to continue till 2037.

Mining activities in the state came to halt from March 15 after the Supreme Court in its February 7 order quashed the second renewal of 88 mining leases in the state. Read more

DNA SERIES: Despite ample contribution, Rajasthan fails to spend District Mineral Foundation fund

Even after collecting a huge amount around Rs 2,000 crore from minerals mining districts in Rajasthan under the most ambitious District Mineral Foundation (DMF) trust till May this year, the state has performed poorly when it comes to allocation and use of the allocated fund from the DMF, reveals a latest study by New Delhi based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).
