Rs 1.1 crore disbursed to mining dependants till date

The Goa District Mineral Foundation (Trust) has disbursed funds to the tune of Rs 1.1 crore towards schemes for benefit of residents in mining belt, as on February 28, 2019.

Of the disbursals, Rs 50.3 lakh was to mining affected people in the north district and Rs 49.7 lakh to mining affected residents of south district.

A north Goa DMF meeting was held on Thursday wherein members considered proposals for funding two school buses in Pissurlem and Honda for transportation of school children in the two villages. Read more

CSE has analyzed the gaps in socio-economic and human development parameters in mining-affected areas of Keonjhar district and has proposed an outcome-oriented model plan for the DMFT.

Keonjhar is the top mining district in India in terms of DMFT collection, total funds in DMFT is more the Rs.2,600 crore. This is about 43% of Odisha’s DMFT collection, The state has a total of Rs. 6,100 crore in DMFT combining all mining districts. Read more

Villagers whose claims were rejected under FRA will have to vacate lands

NAGPUR: Stung by the Supreme Court order on evicting forest land in possession of people whose title claims were rejected under the Forest (Rights) Act, 2006, the Maharashtra government has asked forest officials to free such land from the possession of illegal occupants.

On February 22, the state government issued orders to PCCF, APCCF (conservation), district collectors, CCFs and DyCFs asking how many claims under community forest rights (CFRs) and individual forest rights (IFRs) under FRA were received and accepted, and how many rejected. This information will have to be submitted to APCCF (conservation) at Van Bhavan, the state forest department’s headquarters at Nagpur. SC Stays Order Directing States To Evict Persons Whose Claims As Forest Dwellers Were Rejected

The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed its February 13 order in the wake of which over 11 lakh tribals and other forest dwellers in 17 states stood to be evicted. The bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra also required the Chief Secretaries of the states to disclose the modalities of the procedure of adjudication of these claims on forestland. Noting that many of these claimants may not even possess the requisite documents, the court directed the states to furnish whether the rejections were made after following due process, if there was adequate communication with the evictees at all stages, and whether there is acquiescence of the State-level Monitoring Committees which ensure that no tribal is displaced except in compliance with the formalities under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.
