Pauri DM asks officers to deposit royalty amount in Trust’s account

Pauri District Magistrate Sushil Kumar while chairing a meet of the District Mineral Foundation Trust in Pauri on Thursday asked the officers of the public works department and those of health, irrigation, education, communication and minor irrigation departments to deposit the amount of royalty in the account of the trust. He regretted over the low deposit volume in the trust which stands at Rs 74 lakh.

The District Magistrate stressed that the works related to health, education, communication, roads and drinking water supply near the mining areas should be done by the amount being deposited in the account of the trust. The District Magistrate also directed

the officers concerned to submit work proposals following physical inspection of the areas. Read more

TN govt’s Sterlite closure order on shaky ground

Advocate Ritwick Dutta who specialises in environment law, said, “If the pollution control board or the government is directing for closure, specific violations of the Air Act, Water Act and Environment Protection Act need to be cited. Telengana: Adivasis set to declare self-rule

Adivasis have been demanding that the state and central governments remove the Lambadas from the list of Scheduled Tribes.

ADILABAD: Adivasis will beat their traditional drums, especially the ‘Thudum’ just after midnight on May 31 as a way of announcing self-rule in their gudems in the state.

Adivasis have been demanding that the state and central governments remove the Lambadas from the list of Scheduled Tribes. The Adivasis will launch non-cooperation with Lambada government staff in old Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts from June 1, and will raise black flags on Telangana Formation Day on June 2. They will pitch their traditional flags in what they say are their lands encroached upon by the Lambadas.

As part of the self rule movement in their gudems from June 1, Adivasis will not allow Lambada staff into their villages. Adivasi Hakkula Porata Samiti (Thudum Debba) state president Soyam Bapurao alleged that Lambada employees are working against the Adivasis’ welfare and Lambada teachers are not teaching Adivasi children in schools and discourage them from studying and discriminate against them.

Authorities shutter illegal mines

Nearly 30 illegal gold mining operations have been shuttered in Mondolkiri province over the past week as officials with Mines and Environment ministries continue a compliance push in the wake of a poisoning case that killed 13 villagers downstream in Kratie province.

Leat Limkun, chief of Keo Seima district’s Chong Phlas commune, said yesterday that joint forces from the national and provincial levels shut down 29 anarchic gold mining operations in Chong Phlas commune over the past week. Read more
