Merely 40 km away from the Jharkhand’s state capital Ranchi, Khunti, a newly-carved out district is in the limelight across the national media.

Dominated by CPI Maoist and its splinter rebel group PLFI and surrounded by rich flora and fauna, this district is now at the centre stage for its new kind of political movement popularly known as the Pathalgadi. Illegal mining by Trimex Group suspended as SC takes cognizance

Tehelka had exposed the large-scale illegal mining and its exports going on for over a decade and collusion by various departments of the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh government — from the Department of Atomic Energy to the Union Ministry of Mines as well as various departments of the State. And finally, the mining lease for beach sand minerals over a huge 7.20 sq kms by Trimex has been suspended in Vastavalasa and Thonangi villages, Gara Mandal, Srikakulum district in Andhra Pradesh. 10 states offer 102 mineral blocks for auction in FY19, Jharkhand tops list

Ten mineral-laden states have queued up 102 blocks for electronic auctions in this financial year. With 20 blocks, Jharkhand has the largest number of deposits on offer. Rajasthan comes second with 16 blocks, while Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have readied 13 each.

Among the queued blocks, 42 are of limestone, followed by bauxite (19), manganese ore (11), copper (8), iron ore (6), graphite (6), zinc (3) and two each for emerald and gold. Read more
