VIIth General Assembly

The seventh general assembly of the mines, minerals and People (mm&P), held in Dabbanda, Visakhapatnam on March 1-3, 2019, saw participating human rights defenders, academics, journalists and students “pledge” for securing the rights of the indigenous communities for sustainable development, even as sharply focusing on illegal mining, women and children affected due to mining, poor implementation of the District Mineral Foundation Fund (DMF), silicosis, future Generation Fund and Business and human rights.

Attended by more than 260 participants from 100 organizations representing 21 states of India, it saw participation, among others, of eminent subject experts Roger Moody, Natalie Lowrey (coordinator, Deep Sea Mining Campaign and Yes to Life and No to Mining), Linda Chhakchhuak, BT Venkatesh (Reach Law), Rahul Basu (Goa Foundation). VIth General Assembly

The Sixth General Assembly of the mm&P, organized from 13th May to 15th May 2017 at Kotagiri in Tamil Nadu, witnessed the participation of about 236 volunteers, coming from dozens of struggle groups representing 17 states across the country. People from various paths of life, from activist, journalist, lawyer, environmentalist, expert, student, farmer and women, to former deputy-director of Geological Survey of India KV Krishnamurthy, Rajasthan’s “water man” Rajendra Singh, as guest speaker, participated in the meet. They shared their experiences and expressed concern on issues of community rights over natural resources. Read more

Vth General Assembly

mines, minerals & People organised its ‘Fifth General Assembly’ in Anandwan, Warora (Maharashtra) under the aegis of ‘Maharogi Sewa Samiti’. It was held from 27th February to 01st March 2015. mm&P is an alliance of communities affected by mining, around 250 members from 15 states participated to share their issues and to prioritise areas of concern. Sessions on alliance building, legal changes, community interface with natural resources and models for transferring benefits to communities were of importance to the participants.

IVth General Assembly

Fourth general assembly conducted was organized in Dabbanda, Andhra Pradesh. It was held from 14th to 16th March 2013. There were 362 people present for the meeting from all over the country and supporters from outside the country were also present. It was decided in the meeting that Chairperson will be R. Sreedhar, Secretary General will be Ravi Rebbapragada and 23 people will be Executive Council Member.

IIIrd General Assembly

Third general assembly was organized in Shree Gurudev Ashram, Chhattarpur, New Delhi, from 26th February to 28th February 2011. There were more than 200 participants present for the Assembly from all over the country and supporters from outside the country were also present.
